Long Eaton Open Meet

What a day we had at the Long Eaton Open Meet on Sunday, 29 January 2012!!

With over 60 swimmers competing in this Open Meet, the club was extremely well represented, with swimmers from City of Derby in almost every heat, and many of the swimmers reaching the finals, and needing to make space on their shelves for all their trophies!

There were great performances all around, with Shay Bradley finishing as joint 2nd overall boy and Martina Drasnarova as 3rd overall girl.

The team spirit on poolside was fantastic, with great support all around, and amazing dancing before the warm up for the final session started!!

Alongside the more experienced swimmers, it was great to see so many Nemos and Dev1 swimmers racing at this meet – the club’s future!!

Thanks, as always, to the great poolside support, with Lex, Paula, Vickie and Jackie kept busy all day!

A great start to the racing year – and lots more to come!! Well done everyone.

Here comes summer….

It’s almost time for those beautiful summer days when we can jump into the warm open water and race the ducks and fish as well as the competition.

Here’s some dates for your diaries:

Great Swim Series

This series of open water swims is open to anyone who is 16 (by the date of the swim). Where there’s a ½ mile swim anyone who is 12 or over can enter

Great London 26^th May (1mile)

Great East 16^th June (2 miles 1 mile ½ mile)

Great North 22^nd-24^th June (2 miles 1 mile ½ mile)

Great Manchester 1^st July (1 mile)

Great Scottish 25^th August (2 miles 1 mile ½ mile)

Midlands and Derbyshire Championships

There is no date posted yet but these championships are usually on the second Sunday in July and are over 1500m and 3k. There will also be a 500m swim for anyone over 11 so if you want to try out Open Water that will be a perfect opportunity for you to have a go (parents and supporters too!!)

National Championships

There will be qualification times for the Age Group Championships (these are usually taken from 800 and 1500 times in the pool), but they are not published yet, but anyone can enter the mass participation swim

RotherValley Mass participation 22^nd July (1k)

Ellie Baldwin Books Place at Olympic Trials!!!!

Ellie Baldwin at this weekend’s Zonal Competition earned herself a qualification into the Olympic Trials! The youngster swam a 3 second lifetime best gaining the qualification standard for the Olympic Trials.

Ellie will join James Lovatt and Adam Peaty at the Trials in less than 5 weeks time. What an achievement!!! This was however one of many highlights at this weekend’s Zonal Competition in Corby! Danny Johnson got a NQT in his 400IM joining Ellie Baldwin, Adam Peaty, Edward Martin, Becky Jones, Connor Smith at this year’s National Championships. With four and a half months left to qualify it looks exciting for the City of Derby. The relays posted some great times this weekend which should earn them qualification also. A great show down between us and Nova in the 4x100IM mens team saw us put in a brilliant silver medal performance. Across the weekend saw a lot of race exposure, learning and racing. During these months it’s not about times it’s simply about racing well!!! This weekend we did both!!! It’s been a hard January of training and to have the results we had at the weekend already is brilliant!!!! Well done to all!!! let’s take our experiences forward and get even better!!!!! Great Job Guys!!!!

Long Eaton Open Meet

We’ve got over 60 swimmers competing in the Long Eaton Open Meet this Sunday, 29 January – let’s get ready for some fantastic swimming!!!

There are three sessions to the open meet.

Warm Up Session 1: 8:30am
Warm Up Session 2: 12:15pm
Warm Up Session 3: 4:45pm

Space will be a bit limited on poolside, so if you’ve got a smaller bag to put your swimming things in for the day, please use that, and only bring onto poolside your essential items. You can put everything else in a locker.

Remember to bring your dark blue City of Derby SC t-shirt for poolside and have your club hat to race in.

Can’t wait to see you all race!!!!!

Zonal Important Message

Please note swimmers swimming later in sessions IE relays need to make sure they are at main warm ups. Arriving later in the session will not be accepted as it’s imperative all teams warm up together, furthermore the staff are able to check the available swimmers before the relay declaration forms are put in. Please note should swimmers decide to arrive late they will Not be entered on the relay dec form as it will be assumed they are unavailale.

Lost property at CO Derby Level one meet

Finding Nemo swim towel – found in the City of Derby team section on pool side

One clear plastic Sports Abroad water bottle – don’t all jump at once

With the Long Eaton Open meet and the zonal competition this weekend there are a few changes that are taking place.

Friday PM – Junior National – National Potential Loughborough

Sat AM – Moorways Dev 1 and National Squad – JN unable to attend Lboro

Remaining SAT AM sessions all on as normal

Sun – ALL SWIMMING IN FAMILY AND GALA POOLS CANCELLED

Cool Crocs on as Normal – Nemos 5.30pm – 7.00pm Teaching Pool

NATIONAL SQUAD PLEASE NOTE NO LAND TRAINING THIS THURSDAY PM – SWIM ONLY

Important Notice – Car Parking Clamping

Please note that vehicles parked on the garage forecourt risk being clamped. The garage owners need to get into the garage at anytime. Also, the Golfshop have warned that they now have clampers at the ready.
